Overall Purpose of the Job
The Underwriter works within a team of property, onshore energy and engineering (PEN) underwriters, each of whom will have dedicated territorial responsibilities;
The primary responsibility of the Underwriter is to underwrite and manage a portfolio of facultative risks, profitably in line with company targets;
The Underwriter is expected to develop and service a book of facultative business through regular planned market visits to build excellent relationships with clients; and
The Underwriter is required to assist the Senior Underwriter, PEN facultative in forming business strategies for the team setting out the directions, targets and goals.
1) Senior Executive Officer, Dubai Branch Office for administrative/business development matters
2) Senior Underwriter, Facultative, PEN, in Dubai and Head, Facultative, PEN in Singapore HQ for technical matters
Direct Reports: N.A.
Grow a book of facultative risks in designated territory(ies) in line with ACR’s target industries/occupancies, portfolio mix and profit expectations;
Service current client base – cedants and intermediaries – through regular dialogue and technical exchanges;
Take ownership of the assigned portfolio and be accountable for the quality and completeness of its records;
Adhere to ACR Underwriting Guidelines and Best Practice, as well as ACR Code of Conduct; contribute towards enhancement or fine-tuning of such guidelines;
Develop market knowledge and gather market intelligence
Keep track of the claims incurred and assist, when needed the Claims Department, in the handling and settlement of the claims; and
Any other related duties as assigned by the Management.
At least 3 years of underwriting experience in facultative, practical experience in risk analysis and in the use of rating methods, familiarity with standard wordings and clauses prevalent in the various markets;
Possesses a good knowledge of the risk landscape in the underlying industries as well as a familiarity with the markets, the distribution systems and of the key players;
Knows and applies state-of-the-art underwriting techniques and is familiar with the Group’s IT systems and applications;
Experience in the industry whose risks in the unit he underwrites is desirable;
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team; confidence to operate independently in designated territory(ies); and
Upstream and downstream energy experience would be an advantage.
Degree holder and / or ACII qualification or equivalent; otherwise candidates with relevant experience and proven track record may also be considered
