About the Role
The CIO is responsible for planning of Information Technology (IT); including policy and practice development, planning, budgeting, resourcing and training.
The CIO also champions and develops IT vision and strategic plans; aligning them with enterprise objectives and strategy; and directs all related development and implementation projects.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:Information Technology Leadership:
Provide technical leadership to the company on all information technology related matters, including data warehousing, ERP, Portal, VLE, IT infrastructure and other information systems to ensure that technology is exploited to support GEMS MENASA business strategy.
Responsible for establishing the company’s IT vision and leading all aspects of the company’s technological development.
Build and manage a top flight technology team and oversee research and development, as well as project management.
Direct and manage computing and information technology plans, policies, programs, schedules, computer services, network communications, and management information services to accomplish GEMS goals and objectives.
Drive the execution of information technology strategy and establishing technical standards responsible for local and MENASA IT security, local and MENASA IT support, MENASA IT standards, IT purchasing and compliance.
Anticipate and react to major information technology changes to ensure the maintenance of company leadership in the competitive landscape.
Develop and lead the execution of IT strategy, including effective information management and reporting, ERP system, web presence/services and ICT infrastructure to enable GEMS to provide quality education service and stay at the forefront of the business.
Provides strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems for the GEMS network.
Plan and manage financial and human resources for the MENASA IT operations while ensuring the development of high-quality technology solutions for the business. These solutions must be developed at the best possible cost and be aligned with customers and business needs while establishing relationships with employees and key internal and external stakeholders.
Initiates and develops internal and external partnerships to leverage GEMS’ technology investments.
Provides direct oversight and direction on group-wide technology initiatives
Evaluate overall operations of computing and information technology functions and recommend enhancements.
Keep abreast of IT developments and emerging technologies in order to evaluate and implement appropriate, innovative and cost effective solutions to achieve competitive excellence.
Monitors and evaluates systems to measure their success.
Technology Policy and Procedures:
Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
Establish technical standards and ensure adherence to them for product development and company operations.
Conduct long range planning, develop and oversee implementation of multi-year MENASA IT strategic plans with supporting business cases detailing investment requirements and their impact on GEMS.
Develop MENASA IT Budgets for schools and corporate, and ensure all resources are planned to meet the annual operating requirements.
Develops and maintains corporate policies and standards aimed at maximizing effectiveness and minimizing costs related to the implementation and operation of IT systems.
Technology Procurement and Software licencing:
Approves, coordinates and controls all projects related to selection, acquisition, development and installation of major information systems for GEMS.
Review, negotiate and approve proposals and contracts for purchase of IT products and services MENASA.
Ensure GEMS uses legitimate software products to comply with Intellectual Property Rights under the Copyright Law.
Follow the terms and conditions stipulated in the respective software agreements.
Risk management and Backup
Ensure adequate documentation and back up is established for all application systems in order to provide business continuity of IT services with minimum disruption in the event of contingencies.
Responsible for the development, review, and certification of all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
Accountable for ensuring appropriate security controls for technology solutions, information and data of the company.
Technology Planning and Policy Development:
Responsible to regularly evaluate existing technology, information systems, and staffing, research new solutions and technologies and recommend changes.
Gather and analyse changing requirements of users and recommend changes to software applications based on analysis of their impact to all users requirements.
Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors.
Bachelors and preferably a Masters degree (BSc/MSc) in technology related subject.
An MBA from an institute of repute is highly desired.
A total of 15 – 20 years of experience in a related field.
At least 10 years of leadership experience managing a complete IT function preferably with multi location responsibilities.
